Details
Blue almost never shows up in terracotta jewellery, which is exactly what makes this set stand out the moment someone sees it. The centrepiece is a cylindrical barrel-shaped pendant painted deep navy, with a gold sunflower motif at its centre and small matching finials at either end — a composition that nods toward meenakari enamelwork, the layered jewel-tone effect usually achieved with actual enamel on metal, translated here into hand-painted clay instead.
The matching earrings take the jhumka form — the classic domed bell shape found in Indian jewellery for generations — in the same blue-and-gold palette, with a gently flared base that catches light as it moves. Compared to a metal jhumka, these sit lighter on the ear by a noticeable margin, which matters more than people expect once you’re several hours into wearing them. Navy is a genuinely uncommon choice in Indian jewellery generally, let alone in clay — most palettes lean toward red, gold, or green, so a full blue-and-gold set tends to stand out simply by not looking like everything else in the room. A twisted cord ties the whole set together at the neck, and the twist itself adds a bit of texture that a flat cord wouldn’t — a small detail, but one that keeps the necklace from reading as flat against the skin.
A twisted blue cord ties the whole set together at the neck. This isn’t jewellery aiming to blend in — it’s for someone actively looking for a piece their friends haven’t seen a version of already, made by hand rather than pulled from a factory catalogue.
