Terracotta Water Pot with Tap — Hand-Painted Matka Dispenser
Details
Before refrigerators, before water filters, before plastic bottles — there was the matka. The clay water pot has kept water cool, fresh, and mineral-rich for thousands of years across India, and it does the same today with no electricity, no filter replacement, no subscription. The Terracotta Water Pot with Tap is a contemporary reimagining of this ancient vessel — fitted with a convenient plastic tap for easy dispensing, and hand-painted in bold floral motifs that make it as beautiful as it is functional.
The pot is wheel-thrown from natural terracotta clay, kiln-fired, and coated with a food-safe white slip before being painted by hand in the vivid reds, yellows, and blues of Rajasthani folk art tradition — sweeping floral forms, zigzag borders, and bold stripes that turn a functional object into a piece of living craft you actually want to display in your kitchen or dining space.
The porous clay naturally keeps water cooler than room temperature through gentle evaporation — no energy required. It also gradually adjusts the pH of stored water toward alkaline and allows trace minerals from the clay to enrich the water naturally. The tap at the base makes dispensing easy and mess-free, and the removable lid keeps the water covered and protected.
Capacity is approximately 3–4 litres — suitable for a family table, a yoga studio water station, an office, or any setting where you want accessible, naturally cooled, great-tasting water without plastic. Season before first use (fill and leave for 24 hours). An exceptional and genuinely useful gift.
