Details
Red doesn’t do subtlety in Indian dressing, and this set doesn’t try to make it. A square clay pendant, painted deep crimson, carries four sunflower-wheel motifs in gold and black arranged symmetrically across the face — each one painted separately, the four together building a graphic, almost architectural composition rather than a busy one. Small gold beads finish the base of the pendant.
The necklace runs on a red multi-strand cord that ends in a tassel — the kind of detail that moves as you walk rather than sitting still, giving the whole piece a bit of constant motion. Matching earrings repeat the sunflower motif at a smaller rectangular scale, hung from gold hooks that tie back into the necklace’s finishing tone.
Red carries specific cultural weight in India — it shows up at weddings, in celebration, tied to auspiciousness more than almost any other colour. A full red jewellery set isn’t a quiet accessory choice; it’s meant to be seen. Making it from hand-painted clay rather than dyed metal or glass gives it a texture and warmth that a factory-made red set doesn’t have. The sunflower motif specifically was chosen over a more generic floral pattern because of the symmetry it offers — four identical wheels arranged around a square face read as considered and architectural rather than simply decorative, which is a harder effect to pull off with irregular floral shapes. The tassel at the end of the cord is a small addition that changes how the whole piece behaves when worn — it keeps the necklace from ever sitting completely still, which suits a set already built around energy and movement.
