Details

Madhubani painting has a knack for taking something as simple as a flower and making it look like it’s radiating outward under its own power — bold outlines, saturated colour, patterns built in expanding rings. This pendant borrows that visual logic directly: a black-fired teardrop of clay, hand-painted with a sunflower mandala in blue, amber, and crimson, sized large enough that the folk-art detail actually reads from normal conversational distance, not just up close.

Gold-toned clay beads hang below the main pendant, adding movement and a slightly more polished note against the deliberately rustic black clay body. The earrings shrink the same motif down to scale — same blue-and-black palette, same mandala patterning — hung on gold hooks that tie visually back to the necklace above them.

Because the necklace runs on a plain black cord instead of a metal chain, the whole set reads more contemporary than strictly ethnic. It sits fine over a plain white tee or a simple black dress, not just a kurta — more range than most statement folk-art jewellery typically offers. The teardrop shape itself is worth mentioning too — it’s a slightly harder form to paint evenly than a flat circle or square, since the surface curves and narrows toward the point, which is part of why the finished piece has more visual depth than a simpler pendant shape would allow. Madhubani-inspired work like this traditionally stayed within wall art and paper — adapting it to a wearable pendant scale is a relatively recent shift, and one that keeps the folk art visible in daily life rather than only on display.

  • Material — Black-fired terracotta, hand-painted, kiln-fired

A sunflower that doesn’t need the sun — the paint carries its own light.
