Eight-pointed stars turn up constantly in Indian tile work and rangoli patterns — two overlapping squares creating a shape that’s been satisfying to look at across enough centuries and enough regions that it’s basically a design constant at this point. This earring takes that motif and paints it, freehand, directly onto a black clay disc, alternating pink and teal across each triangular point until the whole star fills the circle edge to edge.

Working on black clay rather than natural terracotta orange changes what the paint can do — the pink and teal read brighter and sharper against a dark ground than they would against warm clay, closer to how the same colours would pop on a black tile than on unglazed pottery. Fine radiating lines etched into the background add texture without competing with the star itself, and a small yellow bead hangs below the disc, tying the cooler pink-teal palette back to something warmer.

Because the star is drawn freehand rather than stencilled, the exact angle of each point shifts slightly from one earring to the next — close enough to read as matched from normal distance, different enough up close that no two pairs are painting the identical star. Despite the visual weight of a full geometric composition covering the disc, the finished earring stays genuinely light once fired, comfortable enough for a full day without ear fatigue.

Best suited to someone who wants jewellery that reads as clearly considered rather than generic — the geometric precision paired with visibly handmade imperfection is a combination that’s hard to fake with anything mass-produced.
