The yin-yang symbol travels well — it’s recognisable across cultures that have nothing else in common visually, which makes it an interesting shape to reinterpret rather than just reproduce. This pendant keeps the classic split — one half black, one half terracotta red — but fills each half with hand-painted white and gold flowers and leaf detail instead of leaving it plain, turning a familiar philosophical symbol into something closer to Indian folk art.
A thin gold border runs around the pendant’s edge, giving it a finished look that clay doesn’t usually carry without additional coating. A single bead hangs below as a finishing touch. The earrings mirror the same black-and-red floral composition at a smaller round scale, hung from gold hooks that tie back to the necklace.
What makes the piece work is the layering of two different visual traditions — Eastern philosophy’s most recognisable symbol, rendered in a distinctly Indian floral painting style — without either one overpowering the other. It reads as balanced in more than the obvious way. The black-and-red split also means the pendant pairs easily with either colour elsewhere in an outfit, which isn’t something every two-tone design manages — most bold colour pairings force you to commit to one side or the other when choosing what else to wear with it. The gold border running around the pendant’s edge does real work here too — without it, the black-red split could read as a bit stark, but the thin gold line softens the transition and ties the whole face together visually.
