Terracotta Cup — Handmade Natural Clay Cup with Ridged Body
Details
This is clay in its most honest form. The Terracotta Natural Cup is a hand-thrown, unglazed clay cup with a simple ridged body — the horizontal grooves left by the potter's hands on the wheel as the form was shaped, preserved in the fired clay as a record of making. No paint, no glaze, no decoration. Just the warm burnt-orange of natural terracotta and the marks of the hands that made it.
At 2.5 inches tall and 4 inches wide, this is a generously sized cup — comfortable in the hand, balanced in weight, and perfectly suited to drinking chai, coffee, water, or any drink you want to experience the clay way. The loop handle is sturdy and proportioned correctly for the cup size. The rounded, slightly tapering body sits well in the hand and on any surface.
Drinking from unglazed terracotta is a different experience from ceramic or glass. The clay surface is slightly textured, the cup feels alive in the hands, and drinks served in it — particularly hot chai and water — have a quality that is difficult to describe but immediately noticed. This is the original Indian drinking vessel, used across the subcontinent in one form or another for thousands of years.
