Details
In Indian folklore and Vastu tradition, the turtle is often seen as a symbol of stability, patience, and steady growth — fitting qualities for a planter meant to hold something alive and growing. This one shapes that symbolism into a genuinely functional plant pot: a smiling turtle with its head tucked charmingly to one side, its rounded shell carved with a spiral pattern, and a generous planting cavity built into its back.
Each planter is shaped entirely by hand by artisan potters in Udaipur, using traditional wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques rather than moulds. The turtle's expressive face, its short carved legs, and the concentric spiral pattern across its shell are all added freehand before the piece is air-dried and kiln-fired.
As a planter, it carries the practical benefits that make terracotta a favourite material for growing plants: its natural porosity allows excess soil moisture to evaporate gradually through the clay walls, improving airflow to the roots and helping prevent overwatering — well suited to pothos, philodendrons, small ferns, and other plants that enjoy well-aerated soil.
With its friendly expression and compact, rounded form, it suits a coffee table, side table, or sunny windowsill equally well.
