Details
Some planters simply hold a plant; others turn the whole arrangement into a small piece of storytelling. This one leans toward the latter — a tall, gently smiling giraffe with a patchwork of hand-etched squares along its long neck, standing on four sturdy legs with a planting cavity tucked neatly into its back and hindquarters.
The giraffe is shaped entirely by hand by artisan potters in Udaipur, without moulds or machinery. The long neck and delicate facial features — including the small carved flower between its ears and its distinctive rounded ears — are built up gradually in soft clay, then left to air-dry before a slow, high-temperature kiln firing. This hand-building process means the giraffe's proportions and expression carry small, natural variations from piece to piece.
Functionally, it's still a genuine terracotta planter: the material is naturally porous, allowing excess moisture to evaporate gradually from the soil, which helps prevent overwatering — a property especially useful for succulents, cacti, and other plants that prefer their roots on the drier side.
With its tall, upright form, it works particularly well as a standalone accent on a console table, a windowsill, or a bedroom corner where a little height and personality is welcome.
